DALLO ZOLFO AL CARBONE
Meeting a Sicilian ex-miner migrated to Belgium, interviewing him in his own home and in his own world has been like doing a fascinating field research looking for a dying exotic tribe.
A tribe which, more and more each day, I felt part of.
To enter their lives and to become ears listening to their adventures has filled my heart with deep love. My pride of being Sicilian was increasing.
Every moment spent together with those people was like diving into real Sicily, rich in values, sound principles and genuine traditions.
Men who taught me the true meaning of sacrifice and suffering.
The empathy with their individual suffering has led me to understand a more universal suffering.
I have sadly realized that the pains of a great number of people are caused by power plays of few people for mere economic interests.
